What is an Activist? Some would say it is the ones who raise their fists in protest, some would say it is the ones who are willing to make sacrifices for causes they believe in, and most would define it as those who are politically active. However, I think there is a difference between being politically active and being an activist. I believe an Activist is someone who is concerned about social issues or who is passionate about a particular issue and who uses every means available to bring about change.

What is an Activist? There are many different definitions of an Activist but it can be said that these individuals are members of an informal group of citizens who are highly involved in political, social, or cultural activism. Activists can be students, elected officials, celebrities, writers, non-profit organization administrators, politicians, journalists, or just ordinary people. Activists can also be students but their participation in student politics and campus activities would fall under this concept. Activists are constantly using technology to make their cause more visible or strengthen their ranks such as social media and blogging.

What is an Activist anyway? Activists can be anyone. As a teenager you may have participated in campus protests, sat-in at rallies, wrote pamphlets in dorm rooms, wore bandanas, wrote slogans, created art, and participated in community awareness events. If you grew up in the 1990s you were probably very politically active. Activists go beyond being mere citizens concerned about local concerns; they use their platform of influence to create change.

Unfortunately, there are individuals who use their platform of influence to get personal gain, to spread false information, to attack other individuals for their beliefs, and to maliciously slander other individuals who are merely trying to do the right thing. Unfortunately there are also well-meaning activists who do not know what they are getting themselves into. It is important for students to understand what isactivist entails so that they can avoid these undesirable individuals when engaging in any type of activism.

First, an individual who is not an activist is not necessarily an activist. Activists are people who use intimidation tactics to make certain their cause is heard. Intimidation is a form of psychological warfare that many activists use. There are many different forms of political intimidation including branding, harassment, exclusion, silencing, and bullying. It goes far beyond making threats to the target company or individual that will have an affect on their business decisions.

Additionally, being involved in social issues is not the same as being an activist. Activists need to be advocates for social change. This is done through direct action and the promotion of self-care. Many companies that have become progressive and are willing to take a stand on many different issues have found that by becoming an active part of the community, people begin to listen to them and support their endeavors. Additionally, they see that a company has to value and cares about their community because they want to promote self-care and a better future for everyone.

The reason why many activists target institutional investors is that they do not want to have to pay a dividend. When corporations make profits, they do not distribute the profits to shareholders. This means that the vast majority of profits are taken by the shareholders from ordinary people. Activists and shareholders work together to change this so that everyone has equal opportunity to share in the wealth. By working together, they can affect change that affects not only them but also the world.

The benefits of what is an activist investor are that it allows you to work on issues that you are passionate about. agency allows you to impact companies that you may not otherwise invest in. shareholder activism is beneficial for everyone involved including the companies that benefit from it. However, you should choose your stocks carefully because you will be putting your money at risk when you purchase shares of public companies.
